What is an electronic ticket?

Throughout the world now, including Russia, sale of electronic tickets is rapidly developing as passengers who used this type of tickets agree with the convenience of their usage and are fully satisfied with the advantage of their retention. An electronic ticket (E-ticket) is an electronic analog of a paper ticket where information of the passenger, the itinerary, the tariffs and charges used are stored. An electronic ticket is a confirmation of the air transfer. When checking for the flight, it is sufficient to produce the same identity document that was used for execution of the E-ticket.

All operations are possible with the E-ticket same as with a paper ticket: change of a departure date, exchange and repayment.

The principle difference between an E-ticket and a paper ticket is that it is stored in the database of the carrier and a probability of its theft or loss is excluded.

Purchase of an electronic ticket is not connected with a necessity to have an access to the Internet. Many passengers consider booking and buying a ticket via the Internet as well as a purchase of an electronic ticket equivalent, though this is not like that. Purchase of tickets using the Internet resource is a supplementary service using the electronic execution of a ticket provided to the passengers in the aviation market.

E-ticket and baggage receipt forms for RF civil aviation are approved by Russian Federation Ministry of Transport Order No. 134 of November 8th 2006. They are used equally with paper ticket.

If an employee buys a non-documentary ticket (e-ticket) for his/her business trip, then according to RF Ministry of Finance Letter No. 03-03-06/4/99 of July 17th 2007 “… in our opinion, evidences for expenses recognition for income taxation purposes can be a print-out of electronic document (air ticket) and a boarding pass”.
